This Pele de Tigre marble slab is a distinctive Portuguese stone with a luminous ivory-white ground and expressive veins of blue-grey, graphite and warm bronze. The darker markings gather into elongated, angular formations, creating a bold diagonal movement across the otherwise softly clouded surface.
Quarried near Vila Viçosa in Portugal’s Alentejo region, Pele de Tigre belongs to the celebrated Estremoz family of marbles. Stone has been extracted from this historic marble district since Roman times. Its name—Portuguese for “tiger skin”—refers to the contrasting dark markings that distinguish it from the region’s paler varieties.
This particular slab balances generous areas of quiet white with concentrated flashes of darker mineral colour. The result is dramatic without feeling overpowering, making it equally effective as a single statement surface or across carefully vein-matched sections.
