Behind the Scenes: The Making of the ARTIS Brochure
A glimpse behind the private doors of a company can reveal a lot. In this first in a series of ‘behind the scenes’ stories from Lapicida, we throw open the doors to you and give unprecedented access via our online Journal. We give you a fascinating look into the level of thought and detail that went into the making of the new ARTIS brochure and the capture of the eye-catching imagery it contains.
A NATURAL LOOK
While visitors to our awe-inspiring showroom experience the many wonderful stone and tile products on display, we wanted to share what actually goes on ‘behind the scenes’ at Lapicida. That’s where we store, check, cut and craft many types of stone from antique reclaimed natural stone to precious marbles and new-generation porcelains. Showing the new ARTIS range off against this authentic ‘real life’ background seemed the obvious choice.
ARTIS is a range of new-generation porcelains inspired by nature and modern architecture. These high-performance surfaces replicate natural stone, marble, wood – even concrete.
Specialist machinery used for cutting all types of natural and manmade stone, along with our highly skilled workforce, help us to maintain exceptional quality standards and efficiency in manufacturing. Our industrial high-tech stone saw made the perfect background for our marble-effect porcelains (above left). We chose a corner of our stone yard to photograph the concrete-effect porcelains (above right). We love how the rust sets the colours off so well.
A block of limestone ready for shaping on the CNC machine provided a dramatic setting for the stone-effect porcelain tiles. While the earthy tones of our blocks of reclaimed natural stone stores added an authentic backdrop. Where better than to photograph the new wood look porcelains that imitate the real thing so well than in the woods? The green and browns of the forest bring out the colours and veins in the surfaces so beautifully.
Finally, our hero product, Bluetta Bookmatch – a UK exclusive porcelain slab (featured above centre). An impressive 2400mm high by 1200mm wide, these maxi-format slabs can be used in pairs to create the ‘bookmatch’ butterfly-effect. The dramatic warehouse setting, against the marble slabs stored side-by-side like books placed on a shelf, demonstrates just how incredibly large this stunning manmade slab is.

Although new-generation porcelains are one of the fastest growing product types, limestone, sandstone and marble remain firm, timeless favourites. One of our most exciting developments is that we are continually discovering new ways to use porcelain and natural stone together, making projects that were previously deemed too expensive or challenging a reality.
Why ARTIS? Well, the word ARTIS translates roughly as ‘trade’ in Latin text, but also as ‘technology, production, skill, craft or art’ depending on the context. So, it is the perfect name for this beautifully crafted range from Lapicida.
