Contemporary Glamour, Paris & Apartments
We have selected three superb ‘Books of the Month’ as part of our new partnership with Potterton Books that illustrate our Design Insight theme of ‘Future-proof’.
It is an internationally appealing look that has tremendous influence on forward-thinking architects, interior designers and families who live a contemporary lifestyle. Key traits are spaces of large square footage, neutral palettes and clean linear planes and lines that create a functional yet timeless impression.
Interiors by Sandra Nunnerley
Interiors lavishly chronicles Sandra Nunnerley's design vision as expressed through these globe-spanning projects. It features beautiful photography in thematically organised chapters on Serenity, Individuality, Refinement, Glamour and more. The book documents Sandra's inspirations and how she thinks about design. It suggests how we might also look at the world around us to arrive at our own design approach. £58.99.
We’re completely transfixed by ‘Glamour’, a New York duplex apartment. With stunning 360 degree views, it occupies the top two floors of the Sherry-Netherland hotel, once home to Cecil Beaton. The look is loft-like – a ‘version of Art Deco, updated with a clean, contemporary spin’ according to Nunnerley. In this spread (pages 168-9), a marble floor – not dissimilar to Lapicida Calacatta Lincoln – contrasts beautifully with dark wood furniture and a lustrous, grey wall mosaic.
Twelve extraordinary houses and apartments in unique urban settings: from New York to Mexico City, from London to Paris, Lyon, Berlin and Geneva to Tel Aviv, Pingtung City and Sydney. This fabulous book explores projects by Originate London, Emmanuel de Bayser, Bernd Gruber, Hao Design, Maison Hand, Lev Ronen, Nicolas Schuybroek Architects, Esther Gutmer, Xavier Charvet, Frederic Berthier, Hélène & Olivier Lempereur and Redgen Mathieson. This is a trilingual version covering English, Spanish and French. Luxury binding with real linen. £70.00.
Our highlight home is a ‘Stylish Hôtel De Maître’ located in a chic neighbourhood of Paris. Why did this one seize our attention? The townhouse features beautifully spacious rooms renovated in collaboration with interior designer Esther Gutmer. The style is in keeping with the grandeur of the original building, yet it is wonderfully modern. However, it was the ‘salle de bain’ (pages 136-7) that really captured our imagination. Clad floor-to-ceiling in a beautiful Italian marble. Lapicida Striato Olimpo is not dissimilar and makes an exciting addition to any interior space.
Contemporary Houses & Apartments
This slick book presents contemporary houses and apartments by renowned interior architects and designers from all over the world. Projects detailed include those by Hans Verstuyft, Norm Architects, Redgen Mathieson, Renaud De Poorter, Francesc Rifé Studio, Obumex, Saai, Arjaan De Feyter, Atelier 10-8, CJH Studio, Bieke Casteleyn (BCINT), Elena Pancaldi, Dorothee Junkin Design Studio, Tjip, Britt Thomas, Fiona Lynch and B.E.Architecture. This is a trilingual version covering English, French and Dutch. £55.
We picked out ‘Urban Loft’ which showcases an apartment designed by Interior Architect Arjaan De Feyter. Located in the Eilandje neighbourhood of Antwerp, the city’s oldest port, the space emanates tranquillity. The materials and colours used have exactly the right patina. The kitchen (pages 128-129), with its chevron parquet flooring – similar in style to Lapicida Silk Georgette Large Hungarian Point – looks stunning with the marble adding an authentic feel to this contemporary home.
