Slate
Slate is a fine-grained, metamorphic rock composed mainly of quartz and muscovite. Slate can be split into slabs and split again into thin sheets, ideal for floor tiles and wall tiles. These can then be ground to an absolute flatness. Slates vary in colour, but are most commonly seen in black and grey, due to the presence of carbon and graphite.
Slate-producing regions include Cornwall and Wales in the UK, or as far afield as Brazil. It is particularly valued for its natural durability and heat absorption. Lapicida Ebony and Grey Green Slate are extremely popular choices for kitchens, or anywhere where a dark coloured floor is required.
Suggested uses: internal • external • high traffic areas • walls • floors • bathrooms • kitchens • kitchen utilies • conservatories / orangeries • swimming pools.
